FileCura release notes

v2.0.9 — July 2026

A new workflow in the File Transfer Pack: Multi-Compress. Select a big batch of files and split them into several ZIPs at once, from one clean screen — no more compressing folder by folder.

• Smart grouping. FileCura suggests which files belong together — clustered by when they were made (a screenshot burst becomes one zip) — or group by source folder, file type, or name. Move or exclude anything with a click.
• Readable names + comments. Each zip is auto-named from its contents (e.g. “Screenshots 2026-07-13”) and can carry a searchable Finder comment.
• Thumbnails built in. Image and video previews right in the sorting screen, so you never need to bounce back to Finder.
• Safe by default. Originals are only ever copied; an existing same-named zip is never overwritten; live progress with a working Cancel.

v2.0.8 — June 2026

A new free Quick Action: Stitch to PDF or Image. Select any images in Finder and combine them into one file — either a multi-page PDF (one image per page, full resolution) or a single stitched image (vertical, horizontal, or grid).

• Two outputs. PDF for documents and sharing; one combined PNG for screenshots and long captures.
• Layouts & spacing. Vertical / horizontal / grid, an adjustable gap, and a white or black background.
• Resolution control. For very large or very many images, pick Large / Medium / Small to downscale the combined image to a sensible size — the dialog shows the exact before-and-after dimensions so there are no surprises. PDF mode has no size limit.
• Free, local, responsive. Part of the free Productivity Pack, runs entirely on your Mac, and stays responsive with live progress and a working Cancel.

v2.0.7 — June 2026

Completes the v2.0.6 wiring. The Import and Export buttons on the dedicated Categories sidebar tab were still greyed out in v2.0.6 — only the equivalent buttons under Settings → FileCura Storage were live. Both surfaces now work identically and call the same hardened import / export path shipped in v2.0.6.

v2.0.6 — June 2026

The Import / Export / Reset Category Set buttons (and their menu-bar mirrors) now work. They were quiet stubs in earlier builds — clicking them did nothing. Also bundles one latent crash fix in the same area.

• Export Category Set writes your current categories to a .filecuracategories file (plain JSON inside — openable in any text editor). The save panel suggests a sensible filename; the success banner tells you exactly where it landed.
• Import Category Set reads a .filecuracategories file and asks whether to Merge with what you have or Replace everything. Merge silently skips imports that already exist by name and re-keys any that share UUIDs, so you never end up with twin cards. Replace honours the imported set wholesale.
• Reset Categories restores the bundled defaults, with a confirmation prompt.
• Hostile-file hardening. Imports refuse files over 5 MB, sets over 500 categories, names or tags over 80 characters, or any content containing control characters or right-to-left overrides. The validation runs before the Merge/Replace prompt, so you never confirm an import that wouldn't apply cleanly.
• Crash fix. The Tag Selector and Single Tag workflows used to hard-crash if two categories ever shared a name (possible via import or a manual edit). They now keep working with the last write winning.

v2.0.5 — June 2026

A focused responsiveness fix. The post-transfer comment-update phase used to freeze the app for minutes on large file moves — long enough that some users assumed a crash and force-quit. Now it runs in the background with live progress and a working Stop button.

• No more UI freeze after large transfers. Smart Mover and Cloud Migrate's "Updating Finder Comments" pass now runs off the main thread. The sidebar progress card shows live "N of M" counts, the window stays responsive, and the Stop button cancels mid-run cleanly.
• Smart label, not a generic one. The progress card now reflects what's actually happening — "Updating Finder Comments", "Removing iCloud downloads", or "Moving originals to Trash" — rather than always saying the first one.
• Actionable error when Finder denies AppleScript. If FileCura doesn't have Automation permission, the report now shows one clear message ("open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation, enable FileCura, then re-run") instead of one identical line per file.
• Cleaner cancel. Cancelling mid-annotation skips the post-cancel summary view; you cancelled because you wanted to stop, not to see a half-finished report.

v2.0.4 — June 2026

Auto-updates land, the revocation system gets a build-time security floor, and the deploy pipeline picks up belt-and-braces guards. No customer-facing workflow changes — just the plumbing that lets future releases reach you safely.

• Auto-updates via Sparkle. FileCura now checks filecura.com/appcast.xml once a day in the background. New releases pop the standard "Update Available" prompt with the release notes. Updates are signed twice: Apple notarisation (which you've always had) plus a separate EdDSA signature we verify in-app — so a compromised server can't push a malicious update. SUSendsSystemProfile is off: the appcast poll carries no system data.
• Revocation hardening. The first-launch trust-on-first-use window is closed: even a freshly-installed FileCura with no cache now refuses any signed revocation manifest dated before this build. Cache lookups are clamped on both ends (no future-dated tampering, no past-dated tampering). Network timeout bumped from 10s to 30s so tethered + captive-portal connections work first try.
• Deploy preflights. The release script now refuses to ship if signing-key placeholders are still in the project, if the worker and app revocation floors don't match, or if Sparkle's signature step returns empty. Appcast updates auto-splice in — no manual paste.

v2.0.3 — June 2026

Closes the customer install gap from v2.0.2. Pack files now ship inside the app, and revoked-pack UI is unmistakable.

• One-click pack install. The paid packs you've purchased install in a single click — no separate download step. The .filecurapack files are bundled inside FileCura, gated by the same licence and revocation checks as the rest of the app.
• "Locked" pill for revoked packs. When a licence is in the server-side revocation list, paid packs render with a red Locked pill instead of the green Installed pill. The licence banner already explained the why; the catalogue now visually agrees.
• Drag-and-drop import still works for support cases (e.g. we ship you a beta pack by email).

v2.0.2 — June 2026

A safety + value release. Adds remote licence revocation, restructures the Complete Bundle to include every paid pack at the same price, and ships the deploy hardening that came out of the launch.

• Licence revocation. FileCura now polls a signed revocation manifest at /revoked.json on launch (with a 24-hour cooldown) and locks any packs whose licence has been refunded. The manifest is verified offline against the same Ed25519 public key bundled in the app — no telemetry, no phone-home account check, no new permissions. A clear banner in Settings → License explains what happened if it ever fires.
• Complete Bundle now includes every paid pack. £45 unchanged. Hygiene + Metadata + File Transfer + Project Steward — save £39 (46%) vs £84 separately. Existing customers keep what they had; the change only affects new Complete Bundle purchases.
• Pack-import gate hardened. A refunded buyer's licence file still verifies structurally, but the import flow now treats it as unentitled rather than appearing to succeed. Matches the runtime workflow gate behaviour.
• Receipt copy — bundle clarity. Receipt emails now name every pack in the bundle (previously some bundle packs displayed as raw IDs to the buyer).

v2.0.1 — June 2026

A polish release with one regression fix, one new pack feature, and a new in-app support surface.

• Categories CRUD fixed. Add, Rename, Delete, Duplicate, Add Tag, Remove Tag, and Reset were stubbed in v2.0.0 — every button now wires through to the underlying store. Existing categories.json files load unchanged.
• Route by Config — AND / OR rule composition. Each rule can now combine multiple IF clauses with either ANY (OR) or ALL (AND). Existing single-condition profiles continue to load unchanged.
• New: Help → Report a Bug. An opt-in diagnostic audit trail records button taps, store calls, and disk writes to a local file. Help → Report a Bug generates a Markdown report you preview before sharing — with file paths redacted to extensions by default. Zero telemetry, local-first; opt in via Settings → Support.
• About section. Settings now shows a small Veratus Group attribution with a link to veratusgroup.com.

Highlights (v2.0.0)

• Free app, paid packs — seven Finder Quick Actions free with the app, four optional add-on packs available (Hygiene and Metadata at £15 each, File Transfer at £25, Project Steward at £29), plus two cost-saving bundles.
• Auto-install on first launch — FileCura installs and enables its Quick Actions automatically. No manual setup step.
• Integrity watchdog — FileCura watches its installed Quick Actions and shows a Dashboard banner with a one-click Fix if anything goes missing.
• Runtime license gate — paid-pack workflows verify entitlement on every run, signed against an Ed25519 key bundled inside the app.
• Pack format — .filecurapack for distribution, .filecuralicense for entitlements. Both Ed25519-signed, both delivered by email after purchase.
• Signed and notarised DMG — Developer ID Application: Oluwaseni Sholanke (LDXQ9UCRVW). Distributed outside the Mac App Store.
• Local-first by design — no telemetry, no file uploads, no cloud account required for the app or any pack.

What's in the free FileCura app

FileCura ships with the Finder Productivity Pack — seven Quick Actions, free for everyone:

1. Category Tagging — apply saved category keywords to Finder Comments and Spotlight metadata.
2. Single Tag Selector — pick a single tag from your saved categories and apply it.
3. Text & Comment Tools — bulk filename editing (prefix, suffix, separators, find & replace) and Finder Comment edits.
4. Smart Duplicate Scanner — flag likely duplicates by name, size, and extension.
5. Spotlight Path Refresher — nudge Spotlight to re-index after bulk metadata changes.

File Transfer Pack — £25 add-on

Move thousands of files safely. Pre-flight planning, grouped conflict resolution, live iCloud sync tracking, ZIP / TAR.GZ archives, and rule-based routing with saved profiles. Copy-first / decide-later by default — sources are never deleted until you confirm.

• Smart Mover — pre-flight plan with file count, size, free-space check, and grouped conflict resolution. Optional Finder Comment annotation for an audit trail.
• Cloud Migrate — auto-detects iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive. Live per-file sync verification with a 20-second countdown. Eviction support when migrating out of iCloud.
• Archive Handler — one-step ZIP or TAR.GZ compression with expected-size hints, editable comment template, and saved-space summary.
• Route by Config — rule-based routing (IF file matches, THEN move/copy/skip). Build rules ad-hoc or save them as .filecuratransfer profiles. Plan preview groups routes by destination before any file moves.

Project Steward Pack v0.6.0 — £29 add-on

Released 14 June 2026. Safe-by-default workflows for people who work in projects — code, Unity scenes, Xcode workspaces, Godot games, Rust crates, Python venvs. Every workflow refuses destructive git flags, refuses to write into derived or managed paths, and explains itself when something goes wrong.

Six workflows in this release:

• Project Snapshot — zip-with-smart-excludes for safe rollback. Detects Unity, Xcode, Node, Rust, Python, and Godot project kinds and excludes their derived paths (Library/, node_modules/, target/, DerivedData/, etc.). ZIP or TAR.GZ output. NAS destinations are blocked in this release and handled in v1.1.
• Project Detector — finds projects under any folder with a 4-level deep walk that skips noise (node_modules, .git, Pods, DerivedData). Inline summary banner plus a manual loose-file organiser that ships with a picker so you can route files even when nothing auto-matches.
• Stage & Import — copy files into a project's safe folder with per-kind subfolder suggestions (Unity images → Assets/Art/Imports, Xcode → Resources/Imports, and so on). Refuses to write into derived or managed paths. Conflicts are renamed with a -copy suffix. Backed by a Recent Projects store.
• GitHub Sync — safe Sync (fetch + ff-pull, auto-stash) and Commit & Push. Refuses --force, --hard, and rebase. Refuses to run on an in-progress merge, rebase, or cherry-pick. Live command log and a Snapshot-this-project chain on the Done view.
• Init Repo — turn a folder into a git repo with a kind-aware .gitignore template (Unity, Xcode, Node, Rust, Python, Godot). First-commit message field. Optional GitHub remote URL.
• Git Full Run — end-to-end wizard: init (if no .git/) → set remote → verify (with github.com/new guidance when the remote is missing) → commit & push. Step chips at the top and an HTTPS-to-SSH swap suggestion when authentication fails.

Bundled improvements:

• Manual picker in Organiser — shows every loose file even when zero auto-match, so nothing is hidden from you.
• Word-level token matcher — CamelCase boundary splits, so ProjectSteward tokenises to project + steward.
• Parent folder tokens — each project's parent folder name joins its token set, which catches files named after the surrounding directory.
• Kind affinity tie-breaking — .unitypackage prefers Unity, .xcassets prefers Xcode, and so on, when two candidates score equally.
• Diagnostic-by-default failure messages — every failure surfaces a marker checklist explaining what was looked for and what was missing, instead of a bare error.

System requirements

• macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Earlier versions are not formally supported.
• Apple silicon and Intel Macs supported.
• Roughly 30 MB of disk space for the app and bundled Quick Actions.
• For paid packs: a one-time purchase via Lemon Squeezy and an emailed .filecuralicense file.

Known limitations

• The current DMG uses a basic Finder layout. A branded DMG background is deferred to a future update.
• No localisation: the UI is English only.
